Privacy notice
Last updated: 16 October 2026
1. Introduction
secondaryschool.ie ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This notice explains how we collect, use and safeguard your information when you use secondaryschool.ie.
2. Information we collect
- Corrections and dates you send us: if you tell us something on a school page is wrong or missing, we keep your message and, if you give it, your email address so we can reply. We delete the email address within 90 days of dealing with it.
- School information: public details of schools published by the Department of Education, and open night, admission and cost details that schools publish on their own websites.
- Page counts: we count how many times each page is viewed and which site sent visitors here (like google.com). We don't use cookies for this or store anything that identifies you.
- Reminders: if you turn on notifications, your browser gives us a technical address to send them to; it doesn't identify you. If you sign up by email, we keep your email address only to send reminders, and delete it when you unsubscribe or after a year without reminders.
- Your location: if you use "near me", your browser shares your location only when you allow it. We round it to about 100 metres to sort the list and don't store it.
- Advertisers: if you buy a listing, we keep your business details and contact email to run the ad. Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see card details.
Reminders and sign-ups are meant for parents and adults. We don't ask for students' names or ask anyone under 18 to sign up.
3. How we use your information
- To run the site and send the reminders you ask for
- To check and act on corrections
- To run ads that businesses have bought
- To keep the service secure and prevent misuse
We do not sell your data or show you targeted advertising based on it.
4. Who can see it
Only us. Our hosting provider, Netlify, stores the data on our behalf.
5. Data security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or destruction.
6. Your rights
Under GDPR, you have the right to access, correct or erase your personal data, to object to its processing, and to data portability.
